I'm John, a photographer based in Kansas City, Missouri.
Serious photography began for me about seven years ago following the birth of my first child. Like so many new parents, I purchased a camera and lens kit commercially packaged for beginner. Unlike a lot of new parents, who understandably just punt to using the incredible phone camera they already own, my camera became a new appendage to my hands. Like the boys experiencing the world for the first time I found myself experiencing the world in a brand new way: through a lens.
I approach photography as an art, not a commodity. Remaining true to myself, as I always do, I choose not to follow the money with regard to photography, which path leads to commercialized, formulaic posed portraits. Instead, I devote my time behind the lens to candid photos that authentically memorialize people and moments in their natural and true state.
